Frequent power shortages in Nyala

Nyala residents complained about the frequent power shortages and distribution they have been experiencing since the city was divided in two parts, north and south, they told Radio Dabanga on Thursday, 8 November. The residents explained that power cuts may happen for days in a row, sometimes reaching up to 10 failures per day. At other times, they continued, energy is not available at all. This situation is causing severe damages not only in households, residents explained, but it is also counterproductive for factories. Residents demanded that employees responsible for electricity generation and distribution directors resign immediately. On his turn, Engineer Mohamed Farook, the deputy director responsible for Nyala’s electricity, said that there is a lack of a clear program for the city’s electricity distribution, which he called ‘random’. He emphasized the distribution of electricity depends on the amount of fuel available and on the operating machinery.Related content: Nyala residents complain about power cuts (25 October 2012)
