Four dead in shooting in Kabkabiya, North Darfur

At least four people were killed and nine injured in clashes that broke out between gunmen and citizens in Kabkabiya town, North Darfur, on Wednesday. The clashes erupted against the backdrop of the killing by militiamen of citizen Izeldin Abdel Majed Sabur Souni on Tuesday night, one of the neighbours told Radio Dabanga. “The next morning, the family of Souni reported the murder to the police. They told the police the names and the address of the killers. When the police, accompanied by relatives of the deceased, arrived at the house of the gunmen, the attackers opened fire at them. The ensuing fire fight lasted for hours, after which the police withdrew.” “The gunmen then received assistance from a group of armed men in four Land Cruisers mounted with heavy weapons. They started shooting at random with their RPGs, took the killers with them, and left.” According to the source, stray bullets caused the death two citizens, “one of them was Nasreldin Ibrahim Adam, known by the name of El Kuj. Nine others, among them Abu Bakr Ezeldin Adam, Saadia Mohamed Kurdi, Kaltoum Mousa, Khadija Abakar, and two children were wounded”. The neighbour said that two gunmen were killed too. “The fighting led to the closure of the Kabkabiya market. Most of the people stayed at home. We are all afraid that the militiamen may return.”  File photo
