Fires in West and South Darfur affect more than 40 families

A massive fire on Sunday in the town of Tullus, South Darfur, led to the burning of 40 houses. In West Darfur nine houses were destroyed by fire on Monday. One of the victims in Tullus told Radio Dabanga that the fire broke out in a thatched hut and spread from there to burn about 40 houses. The losses are estimated at SDG700,000 ($122,000). He appealed to humanitarian organisations and the authorities to help the affected.  Murnei camp The fire that broke out on Monday afternoon at Murnei camp, Kereinik locality, in West Darfur destroyed nine houses entirely. 15 other houses had to be dismantled in order to stop the fire spreading around. A Murnei camp resident told Radio Dabanga that about 20 affected families are now living in the open, without shelter or food, as they have lost all their property. He appealed to the local authorities and humanitarian organisations to provide aid to the affected.
