Fire in South Darfur camp destroys 28 shelters

An extensive fire in Kalma camp in South Darfur reduced 28 houses to ashes on Sunday morning, Hussein Abu Sharati, the spokesman for the Association of Displaced Persons and Refugees of Darfur, reported to Radio Dabanga. The fire broke out at about 2pm on Sunday in Centre 8 of Kalma, Abu Sharati said. A strong wind spread the fire quickly. The fire left 42 families (132 people) without shelter. They are currently camping in the open, without any cover or extra clothing against the cold. Abu Sharati appealed to humanitarian organisations to speed up the provision of aid to the victims.
