Fire devastates 2,000 South Darfur families

An extensive fire has destroyed 335 houses and 20 shops in the villages of Halouf and Abu Hamra in Mershing locality, South Darfur. More than 2,000 families in the region were effected and losses are estimated at about SDG2.1 million ($370,000). The Commissioner of the locality, Adam Mohamed Nur, told Radio Dabanga that the fire everything the victims owned, including crops. He explained that the state government began planning to rebuild the villages by replacing the local materials with fixed materials to avoid such incidents in the future.
