The displaced people of Zamzam Camp expressed their fears that 31 youths who were abducted from the camp last Thursday were killed by armed militias. A sheikh from the camp told Radio Dabanga that up to now, they have no idea about the whereabouts of the abducted youths. The camp leader stated that the abduction operation caused great fear among the people of the camp who, according to him, no longer leave their houses after seven in the evening. The sheikh also said that the displaced people cannot go out and look for the abducted youths for fear of being targeted as well.

Zamzam is a sprawling camp near the city of El Fasher in northern Darfur. The camp population could be as high as 200,000 people or more. It grew by more than 80,000 people between 25 January and 13 March this year, according to reports Radio Dabanga received from elders in the camp. This estimate is not corroborated by the United Nations, which hides data on the humanitarian situation for fear of retaliation by the Government of Sudan.
