Fears for detained Sudanese student activist

The leadership of the Independent Students Congress has announced the arrest of one of its members by security forces on Saturday. Student Izzeldin Harika was reportedly arrested while he was on his way from Khartoum to his family in Gedaref, and taken to an unknown location. A relative told Radio Dabanga that Harika was taken from a bus on the Hantoub Bridge, just before entering Wad Madani, capital of Gezira state. The relative expressed fears that Harika will be exposed to torture or ill-treatment by elements of the security apparatus. He appealed to local, regional and international organisations to put pressure on the Khartoum government to release Harika or bring him to trial.File photo: A student protest in Sudan
