Fatta Barno activist: no camp security

An activist from the Fatta Barno camp in North Darfur, told Radio Dabanga that about 7.000 camp residents are currently living under harsh circumstances, facing scarcity of food and of medicine. He added that nor UNAMID forces nor the Sudanese police are currently protecting the camp. The Fatta Barno and Kassab camps suffered several attacks from militias in the past month. Radio Dabanga reported on 9 August that UNAMID promised to provide security for both camps. The activist from Fatta Barno described the circumstances at the camp as “disastrous”, adding that the camp is now under the control of militias. He explained that a third wave of Fatta Barno’s residents are on the verge of fleeing the camp due to the problems above. Camps residents appealed to the international community to act immediately and to provide protection for the displaced of Darfur.Radio Dabanga contacted UNAMID about this situation.
