Hundreds of family members of victims of a shooting at the village of Fara Um Sharekh, west of El Fasher, staged a demonstration on Thursday, in protest against the killing of farmers and injury of ten others by herders.

The demonstrators carried the bodies of one of the deceased. They chanted ‘Allahu Akbar’ and shouted slogans in front of the authorities in El Fasher. The demonstrators demanded the perpetrators be arrested and brought to justice.

The protesters said the perpetrators are well-known to the authorities. “They know their names and where they live.”

As reported by Radio Dabanga on Thursday, at least two farmers were killed and ten others injured by herders in North and South Darfur.

“A group of militant Abbala herders drove their camels and cows onto farms in the area of Shagara, west of the North Darfur capital El Fasher this [Thursday] morning,” a villager reported to Radio Dabanga from Shagara.

“When the farmers confronted the herders, they opened fire. One farmer was fatally hit. Ten others were seriously injured and had to be taken to El Fasher for treatment.”
