A resident of Gireida camp for the displaced in South Darfur was shot dead on Thursday. In El Sareif Beni Hussein locality, North Darfur, a herder was killed on Tuesday. “On Thursday morning, Suleiman Adam Osman was tending his farm in the area of Um Shereina, 17 km east of Gireida. At 12 am, some 11 Janjaweed in military uniforms, riding on camels and horses, fired at him. He died instantly, a sheikh of Gireida camp told Radio Dabanga. Osman was buried in Gireida town the same day. In El Sareif Beni Hussein locality, North Darfur, El Sayed Abakar Adam was shot dead by gunmen on Tuesday. “Five government-backed militiamen shot Adam, when he was grazing his livestock in the area of Um Jarwa,” a herder reported to Radio Dabanga from Um Jarwa. “He died on the spot.” The herder, as well as other sources, told Radio Dabanga that the security situation in El Sareif Beni Hussein is still worsening. “The humanitarian and health situation also deteriorated significantly, after the roads leading to the locality were closed. In particular the closure of the Saraf Umra-El Sareif and the Kabkabiya-El Sareif roads for more than three months, has a large impact on the provision of basic commodities to the locality. “The people in El Sareif Beni Hussein have formed “popular defence teams”. “They are patrolling the locality to protect the farmers during the agricultural season and the herders grazing their livestock.” He appealed to the federal and North Darfur State authorities to intervene “as soon as possible”, open the roads, and deliver humanitarian aid to the population.
