The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Sudan announced that Mohamed El Amin, Sudanese legend singer, will be one of two the recipients of the Human Rights Award Medal for 2015.

The award will be presented on the occasion of the International Day for Human Rights at the EU Delegation premises in Khartoum on 9 December.

In a message on the website, Ambassador Tomas Ulicny, Head of the EU Delegation to Sudan said: “I will have the honour for the fourth time during my mission to Sudan to award new champions for human rights. They are great people who have always demonstrated personal commitment and determination to promote universal values of human rights in Sudan.

“I will be honoured to award the 2015 medal to El Ustaz Mohamed El Amin, a Sudanese singer and artist who shaped the ‘diverse identity of Sudanese’ through his music for freedom and for ‘unifying’ the Sudanese through his melodies for the past fifty years.

“I will also honour El Ustaz Nabeel Adeeb, a well-known Sudanese Human Rights Lawyer and defender who also contributed through his intellectual work to strengthen constitutional law in Sudan”.

For the past seventeen years, the EU annually celebrates the International Day for human rights, and has awarded the medal of Champions for human rights to distinguished activists like Amin Mekki Madani, Faisal Mohamed Saleh, El Balabil singers, El Ahfad University, No for Women Oppression Initiative, Jelila Koko, Prof. Faroug Ibrahim and the University of Khartoum.
