Eight Nierteti detainees transferred to Central Darfur capital

Eight detainees, including the omda of Nierteti, were transferred to the Central Darfur capital of Zalingei on Tuesday, one was released, and another student detainee of El Geneina University is still being held by the security services.

Eight detainees, including the omda of Nierteti, were transferred to the Central Darfur capital of Zalingei on Tuesday, one was released, and another student detainee of El Geneina University is still being held by the security services.

The omda of Nierteti, Tijani Seifeldein, and the sheikh of Nierteti’s Omda district, Abakar Mohamed Ahmed, were detained from their homes in the town last week.

The head of the Northern Nierteti Camp for the displaced, Adam Hamid, and the head of the youth in the camp, Ahmed Abdallah, were detained as well.

Disarmement campaign

The detentions come in the wake of the disarmament campaign currently being implemented by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and army soldiers in a number of states in Sudan, including Darfur.

Of the 25 others who were detained by the Military Intelligence unit in Nierteti during the past two weeks, 13 were released last week.

Activists told Radio Dabanga that the security services transferred eight Nierteti locality detainees and released Abakar El Khatoumi on Tuesday.

They said that the security services handed over Ezzeldin Adam Osman, a student at El Geneina University, who was beaten and severely tortured, to his family for treatment and then to be returned to the security services.

 The eight detainees were: Tijani Seifeldin, Adam Hamid Adam, Ahmed Abdallah Omar, Abdelshafi Abdelmahmoud Osman, Abdelmutalleb Abdallah Abdelshafi,  Mohamed Osman Mohamed and Mujib Mohamed Adam
