A number of residents in Sheiria locality have accused East Darfur's local authorities and security service members of involvement in acts of cattle theft, by assisting or protecting offenders to disguise and escape.

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, one resident said that victims of cattle theft and other people have filed several complaints, and identified the perpetrators and their whereabouts. “The most recent incident happened at Khazan Jadeed administrative unit. The authorities did not take any action.”

They called on the state government to intervene and resolve the problem.

Listeners added that residents in Sheiria suffer from a “horrendous deterioration in health, education and water services.

“There is a shortage of teachers, textbooks and classroom seatings,” a resident said. There are only about 50 men and women who work as teachers in the locality, for all sixteen basic schools and two higher secondary schools.

Additionally there is a lack of medical and health cadres, they complained. Medicines are hard to obtain, similar to proper drinking water because of water pumps and water engines have often stalled.
