East Darfur omda killed in road ambush

The omda of an East Darfur village was killed on a road ambush on Sunday evening by three gunmen. He had allegedly visited a bank in the state’s capital and was on his way home. Omda Ahmed Salem of Umm Karim in Abu Karinka locality was accompanied by a driver and an aide, who were seriously injured and transferred to a hospital in Ed Daein. Witnesses believe the perpetrators saw the omda withdrawing a large amount of money from the bank and ambushed him as they had the chance. Insurgents, riding motorbikes, stole 13 million Sudanese pounds from the omda, and mobile phones and luggage of all three victims. A relative of the omda told Radio Dabanga the police arrested three suspects in Assalaya locality.
