People in Kabkabiya, North Darfur, complain about drugs being traded at the town’s main market.

Several people told Radio Dabanga that the drugs are sold “in broad daylight, under the eyes of the authorities at El Giyama vegetables and meat market in Kabkabiya”.

They explained that the most traded drugs are opium, coming from East Darfur, and a substance, popularly known as El Tifil El Harib (The fleeing child) and offered in the form of pills or liquid, smuggled into Darfur from West African states.

They urged the authorities to intervene, and deter the drugs dealers and users.

Tear gas

The sources also reported that a tear gas device exploded at the market on Wednesday. “Many women and children fainted,” one of them said.

The victims were taken to a hospital in Kabkabiya for treatment.
