The authorities in Darfur have condemned those involved in this week’s violent incidents in Ed Daein and demanded they be brought to justice.

At a meeting on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) in the North Darfur capital of El Fasher, the Security Committee of Darfur held, headed by DRA Chairman Dr Tijani Sese and attended by the Governors of Darfur, condemned the incidents that took place on Monday in East Darfur.

As previously reported by Radio Dabanga, the house of the Governor of East Darfur was torched in an attack by gunmen on Sunday evening, which reportedly killed two civilians and four members of the security service. The attack follows the killing of a number of tribesmen in clashes in Yassin locality.

The meeting directed the security committee “to take the measures necessary to extend the prestige of the state, and deter the outlaws so as not to repeat such incidents”.

In a press statement, the National Umma Party, led by Imam El Sadig El Mahdi, held the Khartoum regime responsible for the incidents at Khor Taan, and warned of the danger of regime’s devatating scheme in Darfur.

Religious leader: 'The regime is responsible for the bloodshed in Darfur.'

The party called for an independent and transparent investigation by the formation of a national committee to investigate the incidents.

Sheikh Matar Younis, one of the religious and native administration leaders in Darfur appealed to the Rizeigat and Ma’aliya tribes to stop the fighting and bloodshed, and resort to the voice of reason. He said that the killers and the dead are both from Darfur, pointing out the devastating effects of the war that left behind orphans, widows, and the destruction of infrastructure and livelihoods.

Younis also laid “responsibility for the fighting, bloodshed, and all the incidents in Darfur to the National Congress Party regime.”

Abdul Wahid Yousif, the Governor of North Darfur, said in a press statement after the security committee meeting that the committee listened to detailed reports on the security situation in North, West, Central and South Darfur, and “are satisfied with the security situation in these states.

“The committee also was informed on the condition of displaced people in some areas of conflict in Tawila and Sorong, because of the operations in Jebel Marra.” He also said that “the committee has acknowledged the measures taken to tackle the displaced peoples’ problems”.
