DRA prepares for release of LJM detainees and conference for displaced people

Tijani Sisi, the president of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), said preperations are made to release more than 60 detainees. The authority is completing procedures to free 60 members of the Liberation and Justice Movement. The DRA is also preparing the upcoming controversial conference for displaced people. This conference is supposed to be held in April in Nyala and should engage Darfurian refugees on voluntarely return to their villages. The gathering will be chaired by the Ministry of Reconstruction and should have the support of the five states of Darfur. Several refugee camps already declared to boycott the conference. The release of the detainees and the conference for displaced people are part of the Doha peace agreement between the DRA and the Sudanese government signed in July 2011.
