The head of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Dr El Tijani Sese, has called on the Sudanese government to start disarming militants in the war-torn region.

According to Sese, the proliferation of arms and the absence of the rule of law may lead to Islamic State and Boko Haram fighters entering the western part of the country, Sudanese newspapers reported on Wednesday.

“It is high time for the Sudanese government to create the political will to start collecting the arms in Darfur. Otherwise, the region may be subjected to the same violence we are now witnessing in the Middle East and Africa,” he said.
