Displaced tortured, interrogated on camp’s activities

Security forces arrested, tortured and interrogated a displaced man from camp Bindissey in Central Darfur concerning activities carried out by leaders and activists inside the camp, a source told Radio Dabanga.   As a result, the displaced Adam Abbekar was left with a broken leg, a camp activist said on Monday, 10 December. Abbekar was allegedly taken to the office of the security forces outside the camp, where he was interrogated about certain people whose names the authorities mentioned. However, when the detainee said he was just a displaced man who was not aware of what is going on inside the camp, he was beaten and subjected to “all kinds of torture”, an activist recounted. He said Abbekar was found “thrown somewhere near the camp” on Wednesday. The source complained about displaced and activists being harassed by members of the security services. He revealed the camp’s sheikhs filed a complaint about the abuses to the Bindissey commissioner.  Radio Dabanga file photoSee also: Series of assaults in Bindissey, two raped (11 December 2012)
