Displaced boy commits suicide in Central Darfur

A 14-year-old has committed suicide in a camp for displaced people in Zalingei, Central Darfur.

A 14-year-old has comitted suicide in a camp for displaced people in Zalingei, Central Darfur.

The coordinator of Hamidiya camp, El Shafi Abdallah, reported the suicide on Wednesday to Radio Dabanga. The boy hanged himself with a rope in his family's home.

Abdallah said that the living conditions of the boy's family were bad because of poverty. “The majority of the population in the camps faces the same worsening humanitarian conditions.”

He demanded that the agencies responsible for children's right and welfare to seriously consider the problems of the displaced people in the camp. “They should receive financial and moral support in order to try to avoid such tragic cases.”

Unlicensed motorcycles

People in Zalingei have complained about the random collection of unlicensed motorcycles by the security authorities in Central Darfur. Coordinator Abdallah said that the collection affects only the residents, and not the outlaws who use motorcycles to commit crimes. “And in the event that the motorcycle belongs to a militiaman they are often released,” he claimed.

He said that this decision to confiscate motorycycles does not apply in the entire state, but only in Zalingei.
