Disease kills 72 in Murnei camps; militia attacks on West Darfur markets

In the Murnei camps for the displaced in West Darfur 72 people have died during the months of August and September from malaria, diarrhoea, typhoid, and malnutrition. The Coordinator of the camps reported to Radio Dabanga that the dead are children, women and elderly. The Coordinator complained about a shortage of medicines, and the high prices of those medicines that are available. He laments a lack of health care, especially after the expulsion of humanitarian organisations. He appealed to national and humanitarian organisations to speed up the provision of medicine and food to the camps. Attacks In Kosa, east of Kulbus a man was reportedly killed and another injured during an attack by militiamen on the town’s market on Monday. An eyewitness told Radio Dabanga that militiamen on camels and horses attacked the weekly market, firing shots thick in the air before pillaging it.The witness said that during the attack Adam Hassan was killed and Abakir Idris Ishaq injured. The attackers robbed money, mobile phones, and other properties of the people present at the market. The witness added that the same militiamen attacked the market two weeks ago, killing a soldier and stealing a Land Cruiser belonging to the army, two motorcycles, and belongings of citizens. Attacks
