Detained Mukjar teacher transferred to Central Darfur’s capital

Sheikh Suleiman Ibrahim Hussein, who was detained on 15 July in Mukjar town, Central Darfur, has been transferred to the main security detention centre in Zalingei on Sunday. The sheikh, a well known basic school teacher in Mukjar, and former head of the Mukjar Displaced Council, was detained by security forces six days ago. No reason was given for his detention. On Sunday, Hussein was transferred from one of the security detention centres in Mukjar to the main security detention centre in Central Darfur’s capital of Zalingei. Witnesses confirmed to Radio Dabanga that his relatives and lawyers have not been allowed to visit him since he was detained. Citizens, displaced, and activists in Mukjar locality demand the sheikh’s immediate release. They also called upon the Darfur Bar Association and lawyers in Zalingei to intervene, and provide legal aid to the teacher.
