Demob of 2k+ ex-combatants begins in South Darfur

On Tuesday, the South Darfur department of the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) commission announced the start of demobilisation of 2,209 ex-combatants of the peace agreement signatories, veterans of the armed forces, and militiamen of the Popular Defence Forces in the implementation of the security arrangements.

On Tuesday, the South Darfur department of the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) commission announced the start of demobilisation of 2,209 ex-combatants of the peace agreement signatories, veterans of the armed forces, and militiamen of the Popular Defence Forces in the implementation of the security arrangements.

Mohamed Daoud of the National Liberation Party-Mustafa Teirab wing said 499 ex-combatants including 22 officers are taking part in the integration process.

Capt. Abubaker Hasan, commander of the demobilisation camp, said that each demobilised individual is handed SDG 3,000 ($63*) after the completion of the demobilisation procedures. They are given a demobilisation card, and the possibility to start projects in the range of SDG 20,000 ($420) in the field of animal production and small business after training.
