Students and citizens of El Mazroub in North Kordofan took to the streets on Wednesday in protest against the high cost of living.
The price of a loaf of bread has risen to one Sudanese Pound. Security services intervened, using tear gas and batons to disperse the demonstration.
Angry demonstrators burned several government buildings including the El Mazroub administrative unit and the tax office buildings.
They broke open flour stores to prove that the rising bread price was because of “a conspiracy and a deal between the administrative unit and merchants” which has nothing to do with a scarcity of flour.
