Darfuri refugees in CAR terrorised

Two residents of the Bembere refugee camp in the Central African Republic were shot dead, and three others were wounded by militiamen on Sunday. “On Sunday, militia elements fired at a group of Darfuri refugees who were on their way to the Bandaro market, not far from Bembere camp”, Sheikh Abdel Rahman Ismail, head of the camp, told Radio Dabanga. “Abakar Abdallah Karama and Mohamed Saleh died instantly. Three others were wounded.” The camp head complained about the rampant insecurity in Bembere. “If we put one step outside the camp, we are prone to attacks by militiamen or armed gangs. We may pay with our life for doing ordinary daily activities such as shopping, fetching water, or firewood.” The Bembere refugees also suffer from a lack of food. “Relief organisations have withdrawn their aid. We have not received food rations since a month and a half.” Sheikh Ismail appealed via Radio Dabanga to the UN Security Council, humanitarian and human rights organisations to intervene, protect the refugees, and provide them with food.
