Darfur United refugee soccer team travels to Sweden

A team of Darfuri refugees has travelled from Chad to participate in the Conifa World Football Cup in Sweden from 31 May to 8 June. Darfur United is an all-refugee men’s soccer team made up of Darfuri refugees living in camps in Eastern Chad. Not only is Darfur United an opportunity for the refugees to represent their people while playing the, “beautiful game”, it is also a movement to bring hope, inspiration, and joy to the people of Darfur.Darfur United is supported by i-ACT, a non-profit organisation based in the USA. In 2012, i-ACT won Peace & Sport’s NGO of the Year award for its work with Darfur United. i-ACT Director of Projects Sara-Christine Dallain holds the position of ConIFA Culture and Youth Director.
