One of the children caught in a deadly traffic incident in Rokoro locality in Jebel Marra has died of his head injury this week. This has increased the number of killed pupils to two.

Abdelhamid Ali Haroun was one of the 48 children who were wounded when the large vehicle transferring them from Rokoro to Zalingei overturned on the difficult road on 18 March. A boy was immediately killed.

A total of 976 children were on their way to sit for basic and secondary school examinations in Central Darfur, instead of in schools in Jebel Marra which are deemed unsafe because of armed conflict between government and rebel forces.

Three pupils had their legs amputated in Nyala hospital last week, besides a number of children who were in need of surgery and prostheses, a father of one of the victims reported to Radio Dabanga.
