Darfur students in Khartoum expelled from boarding houses

The National Students’ Fund on Saturday expelled about 450 Darfuri students from boarding houses of the Faculty of Education at the University of Khartoum. On Saturday evening, police forces evacuated the Darfuri students from the boarding houses, by order of the National Students’ Fund, Mohamed Zein, the head of the Darfur Students Union at the University of Khartoum, told Radio Dabanga. “They had been told to leave the boarding houses during the University’s holidays. Most Darfuri students, however, do not have relatives in Khartoum where they can stay for a while, and they do not have the means to travel to their families in Darfur.” The students then took refuge at the University’s mosque. The Student Affairs Secretariat and the university guards thereupon requested the students to immediately vacate the mosque – which they refused.
