Darfur shepherd killed, travellers robbed and injured in armed attacks

A shepherd has been killed and another injured in an apparent militia attack in Saraf Omra locality in North Darfur on Monday. In a separate incident, four passengers were reportedly injured – two seriously – when an armed group accosted their bus in on the Central Darfur. Suleiman Fidel was killed and his fellow shepherd Mohamed Abdullah was wounded when pro-militiamen allegedly open fire on a group of Beni Hussein tribesmen in the area of Cocouma in Saraf Omra. A relative of the deceased told Radio Dabanga that the men were grazing their flocks north-east of the city of Saraf Omra. The wounded man was taken to hospital in Saraf Omra for treatment. Witnesses speaking to Radio Dabanga from Central Darfur say that four people were injured when an armed group opened fire on a bus in Nertiti locality. The bus, with passengers from El Geneina in West Darfur, was travelling between Nertiti and the South Darfur capital of Nyala. “Men wearing military uniforms opened fire on the bus and then boarded it”. The gunmen then allegedly beat and whipped the passengers, stealing their money and possessions. Two seriously injured passengers were transferred to Nyala hospital for treatment. Witnesses speaking to Radio Dabanga from Central Darfur say that four people were injured when an armed group opened fire on a bus in Nertiti locality.

The bus, with passengers from El Geneina in West Darfur, was travelling between Nertiti and the South Darfur capital of Nyala. “Men wearing military uniforms opened fire on the bus and then boarded it”. The gunmen then allegedly beat and whipped the passengers, stealing their money and possessions.

Two seriously injured passengers were transferred to Nyala hospital for treatment.
