New reports have reached Radio Dabanga of kidnappings by militiamen in Darfur, with the intention of extorting ransom.

New reports have reached Radio Dabanga of kidnappings by militiamen in Darfur, with the intention of extorting ransom.

On Monday evening militiamen kidnapped Sheikh Omar Khamis Daoud from his home in Bala Firash village, east of Birka Saira in Saraf Umra locality in North Darfur. Ishag Abdul Ghani was seriously wounded.

Sheikh Abdul Razeg Yousif Suleiman, the Coordinator of Saraf Umra camps told Radio Dabanga that Sheikh Daoud was taken at gunpoint to Tamor area.

“They also tried to kidnap Ishag Abdul Ghani. When he resisted, they beat him with rifle butts, that caused him seriously injuries. He was moved to Nyala hospital for treatment in serious condition.”

On Monday evening, Sheikh Abdulrahman Adam of Tabit area was kidnapped by militiamen who took him to their headquarters at Numera area in Eastern Jebel Marra. He was released on Tuesday afternoon after he paid a ransom.

One of his relatives told Radio Dabanga that “Sheikh Abdul Rahman arrived in Tabit yesterday, extremely fatigued”.
