Darfur rebels ‘kill nine govt. troops’ in Jebel Marra

The Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahid El Nur (SLM-AW), reported the death of nine government troops in a clash near Golo, in the western part of Jebel Marra, Central Darfur, on Sunday.

Mustafa Tambour, military spokesman for the SLM-AW, told Radio Dabanga that the rebel fighters responded to a raid by government forces on the village of Tiro, west of Golo.

“After the villagers had fled, the attackers began plundering the houses. This necessitated the intervention of the SLM-AW forces,” he explained. “The government forces fled, leaving behind nine dead, as well as some weapons.”

The spokesman said that the retreating forces pillaged and torched the entire village of Birdani, before they returned to Golo.
