Darfur rebel groups criticize Doha agreement meeting

The Head of the Sudan Liberation Movement Minni Minawi has criticized the final statement of the Follow-up Committee for the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur. The Doha government’s pledged its commitment that it will remain open to non-signatories of the Doha agreement. In an interview with Radio Dabanga, Minawi said it would be impossible to negotiate on the basis of the agreement. The SLM, and other movements under the flag of the Sudan Revolutionary Front are talking about a comprehensive solution to all issues affecting Sudan and not just in Darfur. He said this was the only way for salvation of the whole of Sudan. Minawi also said the solution to problems facing Sudan began with dismissing Omar Al Bashir from the presidency, and forming a transitional government in the period until a general election. He said the ruling National Congress Party would suffer the same fate as tyrants past. The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) said it was disappointed by the final statement of the Commission for implementation of the Doha document. Jibril Adam Bilal JEM spokesman, said to Radio Dabanga, the statement didn’t condemn the government and its militia in Darfur after the signing of the document. He said JEM would refuse any negotiation with the government especially following the year of political assassinations. Bilal stressed JEM’s position remained with the Sudan Revolutionary Front and aim of overthrowing the regime in Khartoum.
