Darfur politician Ahmed Direig returns to Sudan after 30 years

Prominent Darfuri politician Ahmed Ibrahim Direig returned to Sudan on Tuesday, after a self-imposed exile of more than three decades.
Upon his arrival at Khartoum airport, the chairman of the Federal Democratic Alliance Party and former governor of Darfur, was welcomed by Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman, and Dr Tijani Sese, head of the Darfur Regional Authority.

Upon his arrival at Khartoum airport, the chairman of the Federal Democratic Alliance Party and former governor of Darfur was welcomed by Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman, and Dr Tijani Sese, head of the Darfur Regional Authority.

Direig told reporters in brief remarks at the airport that he was happy to return home after an absence of more than 30 years. “I already saw that Khartoum developed much. I am just glad to be reunited with my family and country people again.”
