Darfur market prices rise because of JEM-army battles

Markets in the three Darfur states witnessed a sharp rise in prices of sheep and other consumer goods. Citizens attributed the rise in prices to the lack of incoming commercial traffic between the cities and markets over the past few days because of fighting between the government and the Justice and Equality Movement.

One of the citizens of Zalingei told Radio Dabanga that many families are unable to purchase sheep because of lack of liquidity and high prices. With the arrival of the Eid Al Adha holiday, Muslims families are expected to slaughter a sheep. The source in Zalingei said prices for a sheep ranged between 250 and 350 pounds, adding that these prices not been seen in the city before
