Cooking fire destroys eight houses in West Darfur camp

A children’s attempt to cook resulted in the outbreak of a fire which destroyed the full contents of eight houses in Riyadh camp for the internally displaced people in El Geneina locality, West Darfur, on Thursday. A witness told Radio Dabanga that the fire broke out at 12am in Sector B of the camp, when children attempted to make a cooking fire. “The fire destroyed the full contents of eight houses, while the residents have dismantled eight other houses, to stop the fire from extending.” The witness called the authorities and humanitarian organisations to provide new shelters, cover and food for the affected families.
