Complaints about IDs, replacements among South Darfur displaced

Rising fees for obtaining or replacing a national ID in districts of Gireida, South Darfur, have led to discontent among displaced people living in the camps.

A camp resident told Radio Dabanga that the administration that issues national IDs to displaced people has raised its fees from SDG20 ($3.25) to SDG40 ($6.50).

In addition, areas in Gireida now function as residential zones for the displaced people, instead of the home villages from which they have been displaced, the resident said. The displaced people have demanded that the local authorities and the Commissioner of Gireida resolve these issues.
