Clashes between SLM-MM splinter groups in Omdurman

There were violent clashes in the Mohandessin district of Omdurman on Wednesday between two splinter groups of the Sudan Liberation Movement faction led by Minni Minawi. The group led by Nahar Osman Nahar accused the other group headed by Yahya Hassan Nil of taking over a house to coordinate their political activities. Nahar’s group stormed the house using machetes and sticks to drive the others out. Three people injured were named as Abdul Aziz Ahmed Arja, Sadig Abdullah Suleiman and Nahar Osman Nahar. Nil’s spokesman Hatim Ayub Abu Hassan said the move by Nahar’s faction to attempt to occupy the house by force was political suicide. The police expelled both groups and took control of the house.
