Clashes at Imam Elmahdi University settled

The NCP affiliated students that allegedly attacked Darfuri students in Jezira Aba, on a political rally on Wednesday injuring 22, have apologised for their actions. Tensions remained high following the incident where the Darfuri students were beaten, after they held a rally that stood up to racial abuse by the NCP supporters. A Darfuri student told Radio Dabanga that they had also had their money and mobile phones looted during the attack. The University had closed, and Darfuri students were threatening to resign from the University, if they weren’t to be offered an apology or compensation, by the perpetrators. The University Director Bashir Mohammed Abdullah gathered students from both sides together, along with heads of tribes and security forces of White Nile State to read out a letter on behalf of the NCP supporters, apologising for the violence and racist language used. The Director told them never to repeat this action again. The university will open again tomorrow.
