Former civil aviation staff protest in Sudan’s capital

Dozens of former employees of the Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) staged a sit-in in front of the Council of Ministers in Khartoum on Tuesday.
They protested against the non-payment of their financial dues by the CAA since ten months, after their functions were cancelled in 2006 following austerity measures. Because of a budget deficit, monitoring and operational sectors were separated, which led to the dismissal of more than 600 employees.

Dozens of former employees of the Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) staged a sit-in in front of the Council of Ministers in Khartoum on Tuesday.

They protested against the non-payment of their financial dues by the CAA for the last ten months, after their functions were cancelled in 2006 following austerity measures. Because of a budget deficit, monitoring and operational sectors were separated, which led to the dismissal of more than 600 employees.

Early last year, the CAA granted them an indefinite leave. In April, however, their remuneration was stopped without notice.

The employees demanded from the Council of Ministers to accelerate the implementation of the settlement proposed by the Council.
