Citizenship for children of Sudanese and South Sudanese parents
Sudan’s Constitutional Court, the country’s highest judicial body, has decided to grant Sudanese citizenship to children born of a union between Sudanese and South Sudanese parents.
The court’s decision is part of a verdict in one of several similar cases that have been brought before the court.
In a statement on Monday, Refaat Mekkawi, Director of Al Nas Centre for Legal Aid in Khartoum, said that the constitutional court upheld a complaint presented by the centre regarding the case of Adil Burrei and others who have dual citizenship. Mekkawi said there are several similar cases that will be looked into by the constitutional court.
