A girl died, and six other children became seriously ill after they drank poisoned water in Ed Daein, capital of East Darfur, on Tuesday.

A relative of one of the victims told Radio Dabanga that they were offered a tin of water to a group of children while they were playing in one of the districts of Ed Daein. “They were asked to close their eyes before drinking.”

“Immediately after they had drank the substance, they fell ill. We quickly took them to Ed Daein Hospital, where one girl died upon reaching the hospital.

“A medical source in the hospital confirmed that she died of poisoning, most probably caused by drinking water mixed with hair dye,” he said.
