Child dies from gunpowder poisoning, North Darfur

A child died and five other children are ill after being poisoned after they were exposed to gunpowder in Kalamindo locality in North Darfur on Friday.

A child died and six other children are ill after being poisoned after they were exposed to gunpowder in Kalamindo locality in North Darfur on Friday.

A witness from the area said that the children, aged between 8 and 14 years, discovered an explosive remnant near a camp named Abu Tira. They emptied the object and gunpowder came out. Abu Bakar Siddig Asil died from the poisoning that caused him diarrhoea and vomiting.

The other six children were taken to Wada hospital, and then to El Fasher.

The Commissioner of Kalamindo, El Hadi Ahmed Hassan, confirmed the incident and the death of one child.

Hassan said that the children in El Fasher Teaching Hospital are Abu Zar Ishaq Ismail (3), Yazid Ahmed Mohamed Adam (6), Murtada Hamid Ahmed Ali (6), Haneen Ismail (7), and Haytham Abdalla AdbelRahman (8).
