Central Darfur notables intervene to stop attacks on Hamidiya camp

On Saturday, a committee of notables of Zalingei locality met with leaders of the Hamidiya camp for the displaced, in an attempt to relieve the camp of attacks by militiamen. That evening, a man was shot within the camp. For more than a week, militiamen are terrorising the displaced, by firing over the camp for hours, shooting at people, and robbing them. On Wednesday morning, the militia group besieged Hamidiya, and seriously injured two men. Two residents were shot dead on Friday morning, in an attack on the camp market. Two others were abducted. Houses were raided and people robbed of their belongings. The coordinator of Zalingei camps told Radio Dabanga that the meeting with the native administration officials took place at the secondary school of Hamidiya. “The camp leaders demanded an inquiry into the reasons for the attacks, the release of camp residents Yaser Yagoub Abdelmoula and Abulgasem Idris Ismail, and compensation for the injured and robbed camp residents. The attackers are to be brought to justice.” He explained that Abdelmoula was released after the meeting. “Also a number of militiamen withdrew from around the camp. Furthermore, after dissection of the bodies of the two displaced killed, a lawsuit was filed against the two militia leaders responsible for the attack on Friday.” The coordinator added that the doctors of Zalingei hospital decided to transfer Younis Adam Adam to Khartoum for intensive treatment. He urged Unamid to quickly intervene and protect the people. “On Saturday evening, three militiamen wearing military uniforms, stormed Hamidiya camp Centre 8, and fired three bullets at Ayoub Suleiman (18). One of his legs was broken. He had to be taken to a Zalingeid hospital for treatment.” “The assailants fired heavily into the air when leaving the camp, again terrifying the people.” The incident was reported to the police.
