Camp for displaced in South Darfur stormed, shop owner shot

A group of militiamen stormed El Tom Kitir camp for the displaced in Mershing locality, South Darfur, shot a camp resident and looted his shop in the early hours of Friday morning. “Four government-backed militiamen on camels attacked the camp at about 3a.m. on Friday and fired into the air,” said camp sheikh Adam Ahmed. They shot shop owner Abdelmunim Ahmed Basi before they looted his shop, taking everything they could carry and fled. The sheikh said that Basi lodged a complaint with the police of the incident, but the police did not move to prosecute the perpetrators. He appealed to the local authorities to intervene and “get rid of the militias who are playing with the lives of the displaced and their property”.
