Calls for release of Darfuri elders jailed for year and half

One and a half years have passed since sheikhs and omdas of two Darfuri camps were arrested and jailed. The leaders of Al Salaam and Abu Shouk camps are being held in the security service’s facility at Shalla Prison in El Fasher. They have not been charged with any crimes nor granted access to their families or lawyers, in violation of the law, the Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The leaders of Al Salaam and Abu Shouk camps are being held in the security service’s facility at Shalla Prison in El Fasher. They have not been charged with any crimes nor granted access to their families or lawyers, in violation of the law, the Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.Displaced people in camps around El Fasher appealed the human rights organizations, the international community and the United Nations to take immediate action to press the government to release them immediately. The displaced people described their arrest as illegal and unjust, and they demanded their immediate release.
