The butcher El Sadig Luba was abducted by members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on Monday, after the displaced refused to pay compensation for agricultural crops.

Luba was sized from Abuja market at Wadi Shanga, south of Gireida. He was taken at gunpoint to the RSF headquarters.

A witness from Gireida told Radio Dabanga that the butcher was detained after refusing to pay SDG1,200 ($200) compensation to the RSF

“Wembers of the militia forced Sheikh Adamo Mertega of the native administration of camp Foreka to pay compensation for agricultural crop damage caused by livestock to a farm south of Gireida at Donki Abyed on October of the last year.

The witness said that the RSF militiamen demanded the compensation from a delegation that went to negotiate the butcher’s release. Popular Defense official Jiddu Ali Bargo, demanded handing over of Sheikh Adamo Mertega in addition to the payment of an amount of SDG10,000 ($1,630) and gave the delegation an ultimatum until 6p.m. on Wednesday.

They threatened to burn the camp unless their demands are met.

The witness explained that last Sunday, a RSF force using 60 Land Cruisers arrived and stationed at Wadi Shanga, only five kilometres south of Gireida, in order to protect the company which began to dig wells to supply water to Nyala.

Violations

He explained that the force is committing violations against the people of the area.

On Monday afternoon RSF militiamen attacked Dugol Ibrahim with rifle butts and seriously injured him at Joghana administrative unit south of Gireida.

A witness told Radio Dabanga that the militiamen stopped Ibrahim, broke his right hand and caused him an injury on the head, as a result of which he is still bedridden in Joghana administrative unit hospital.

Sheikh arrested

On Monday evening the security apparatus and police arrested Sheikh Daoud of camp Zagrad and head of the Educational Council of Dar El Salaam School from his house east of Gireida.
