Beni Halba, Misseriya tribal clashes kill 7 in S. Darfur

At least seven people were killed and several others were injured following tribal clashes between the Arab Beni Halba and Misseriya tribes in Umm Nunu, on the border between Central and South Darfur on Tuesday. Local sources told Radio Dabanga the reasons for the clashes are not “completely clear”.They recounted that a Beni Halba tribesman killed a member of the Misseriya last Saturday, but added the incident was amicably approached by both parties.The Beni Halba paid blood money (70 cattle and 15 million Sudanese pounds) to the Misseriya, who had accepted the offer. According to sources, the situation in Umm Nunu is “very tense” at the moment as government troops moved into the area to break up the fighting and gain control of the situation.Radio Dabanga file photo
