Bandits stormed a hospital and stole SDG200,000 ($29,768) worth of salaries in West Kordofan on Thursday. The incident follows a series of robberies and carjacks in the area in the past weeks.

An eyewitness said that around 3am, an armed group wearing military uniforms raided the hospital in El Fula and seized money meant as salaries for the workers in the health sector and incentives of doctors. The witness reported no casualties to Radio Dabanga.

The southern areas of West Kordofan have witnessed “a dramatic deterioration in security” last month, according to a source. He added that more than ten incidents in the first half of April, including theft, attack on vehicles and three armed robberies of vehicles, occurred in the town of Babanusa last week.

In October 2016, cases of abuse of medical personnel spiked a nationwide strike of doctors in hospitals throughout Sudan. They demanded the improvement of the working environment, provision of aides, and protection of hospital employees during their work.
