A number of Koran school students were beaten by militiamen near Deleig in Central Darfur on Sunday. A Sheikh from the area told Radio Dabanga that the militiamen were returning from their duty station.

“They had attended a meeting with President Omar Al Bashir. On their way back they attacked a number of students and beat them with rifle butts or whipped them. One of the students, Abdelatif Makki, is seriously injured as he was stabbed in the stomach.”

Makki was taken to the hospital in Deleig for treatment. The students, who study at Katol, northeast of Deleig, were also robbed of their money, mobile phones, and food.
