Attacks in Darfur: Four killed, students beaten

Four members of the same family were killed in clashes in Assalaya locality in East Darfur on Sunday. Koran students were assaulted by militiamen in Deleig, Central Darfur.

A witness reported to Radio Dabanga that an exchange of gunfire at Abu Khadura village in Assalaya killed four people from one family. Their relatives burned a number of homes of the families of the perpetrators. Police and security intervened to break-up the clashes and contain the situation.

A man in East Jebel Marra triggered an item of unexploded ordnance, and was killed instantly on Monday afternoon. El Fadil Suleiman Omar was riding a camel on his way to Kira to fetch water from the well, when a bomb exploded.

A number of Koran school students were beaten by militiamen near Deleig in Central Darfur on Sunday. A Sheikh from the area told Radio Dabanga that the militiamen were returning from their duty station.

“They had attended a meeting with President Omar Al Bashir. On their way back they attacked a number of students and beat them with rifle butts or whipped them. One of the students, Abdelatif Makki, is seriously injured as he was stabbed in the stomach.”

Makki was taken to the hospital in Deleig for treatment. The students, who study at Katol, northeast of Deleig, were also robbed of their money, mobile phones, and food.
