At least seven die, dozens wounded in North Darfur air raids

At least seven people have died and dozens more were wounded when Antonov and MiG aircraft, allegedly belonging to the Sudanese Air Force, subjected parts of North Darfur to “an intense aerial bombardment”. Speaking to Radio Dabanga from Dubbo al Omda in East Jebel Marra on Sunday, witnesses said that the initial bombardment occurred between 7am and 10am, and included Kadja and Dady, as well as the Abu Zaid agricultural project. “The air raids on the area then resumed, and continued into Sunday evening.”Three brothers: Hawe Yahiya Omar, Adam Yahiya Omar, and Walid Yahiya Omar died in one attack, while Gaber Abdurahman Yousuf, and his sons Adam Jaber, Mohamed Jaber, and Noor Mohamed Jaber died in another. Witnesses said that the bombardment was so intense that people were simply not able to escape. In addition to dozens of wounded, large numbers of livestock perished, and many people fled towards Zamzam camp and the city of Shangil Tobay. However, most of the citizens of the area are reportedly taking cover in the wadis and the mountains. Witnesses called on international community “to protect them and to document the crimes of the Khartoum regime.” File photo (nubareports.org) Related: One killed, three wounded in air raid on Sudanese village: rebels (7 August 2013) Young Darfur herder dead in ‘almost daily air raids on East Jebel Marra’ (1 August 2013)
